From social media storytelling and influencer content to branded digital campaigns and live production, you’ll learn the skills to build your own personal brand and shape content culture. Designed for majors in Business Management and Sports Management, the Entertainment Media Program empowers you to think like a creator, gain behind the scenes access to the media industry, help you secure hands-on micro-internship opportunities, and learn effective networking strategies with industry leaders, preparing you for careers in entertainment, sports, and digital media.

Introduction to Sports Broadcasting
This course provides students with professional media training and developed communications skills for the world of sports and beyond. Students will learn to how to navigate interviews, deliver confident on-air commentary, and develop a personal voice across television, social media, and digital platforms. Whether students are aspiring broadcasters, athletes, content creators or simply passionate about the world of sports or narrative storytelling this course offers opportunities for both athletes and non-athletes to build dynamic careers both on-screen and off.
Cinematography I and II
First-year students will experience a powerful introduction into the world of cinematography.
Taught in our state-of-the-art studio classroom, students will learn how to build and operate professional broadcast television cameras, experiment with a variety of lenses and lighting techniques, and work with industry standard audio equipment. Emphasis is placed on both the technical and creative aspects of content creation, as well as collaboration in crew-based production environments.
Business of Entertainment I and II
This course provides an overview of the entertainment media industry, with focus on television, film, and digital content. Students will examine the television production process, from creative development through execution. Topics include the evolution of media through technology, the distinction between scripted and unscripted television, cinematography, on-set safety, and the crew roles that support reality television.
Food Media Styling
Taught inside Monroe University’s five-star Dining Lab, this course introduces students to the art of food styling for social media, television, and lifestyle branding. Students will learn how to plate, light, stage, and capture food content, while exploring the connection between culinary presentation and audience engagement.
The Business of Beauty
Led by professional makeup artists, this course offers students an insider’s look into the multi-billion-dollar beauty industry, through both a cultural and business lens. Students will explore the evolution of beauty standards - examining how race, gender, media, and technology have shaped the perception of beauty. This course also includes an exciting career pathway, with industry-based training in professional makeup artistry.

The Emmy and Palme d'Or nominated Executive Producer, Showrunner, and Executive In Charge of Production, has over twenty years of experience in television. She has executive produced and directed hundreds of hours of programming for several streaming platforms including the Food Network, MTV, VH1, E! and TLC. Dorothy is widely known for her work on Bravo's The Real Housewives of New Jersey, one of the highest rated franchises in unscripted television. She also served as the executive producer of NBC Universal's landmark specials, Race In America: A Movement Not A Moment and Race In America: Our Vote Counts, the network's first ever two-part series about systemic racism. Her career has been defined by award-winning storytelling, exceptional leadership, and a deep commitment to talent development. Dorothy now brings her vision to higher education, leading the launch of Monroe University's first ever Entertainment Media minor - a bold new program preparing students for careers in today's rapidly evolving media landscape.

Ashunta Sheriff is an Emmy nominated celebrity makeup artist, and the CEO of Ashunta Sheriff Beauty, a brand known for combining skincare and makeup artistry to create accessible, high-performance beauty products. With over 20 years of experience, this sought after beauty insider has worked with some of the most recognizable names in entertainment, including Rihanna, Taraji P. Henson, Alicia Keys and Janelle Monae. Her work is regularly featured in major magazine publications including Vogue, People, and The Hollywood Reporter, as well as on red carpets and award shows, feature films and several television series. As a professor, Ashunta guides students on a powerful exploration of the beauty industry, both from the lens of a trusted artist and entrepreneurial brand founder. Students will examine the evolution of major beauty campaigns, explore how brands are built, and experience how makeup artistry can be used as a powerful creative tool, and dynamic business opportunity.
Robin Mueller
Cinematographer | Professor
Robin Mueller is a seasoned cinematographer, known for his work on popular television series like TLC's Say Yes To The Dress. With a career spanning two decades behind the camera, Robin has served in roles ranging from Director of Photography, Camera Operator, Grip and Gaffer, across numerous shows for several streaming platforms including Netflix, Food Network, Nat Geo, and HGTV. As a professor, Robin brings field training directly into the classroom. Laser focused on preparing students to learn every job in the camera department, Robin will help students build the solid technical skills, creative confidence, and the on-set readiness they will need to launch successful careers in film, television, and digital media.
