Qualify for Your I-20
The I-20 document is required to schedule your student visa appointment at the U.S. Embassy in your country. If you are transferring from another U.S. institution, you will also need an I-20 to complete your transfer.
To Qualify for an I-20, You Must:
Sign and Submit the Acceptance Confirmation Form* (available in your admissions portal).nPay the $100 Non-Refundable Acceptance Confirmation Fee via Flywire.
Provide Financial Documentation:
- Submit bank statements, loan letters, or scholarship letters proving financial support.
- Financial sponsors must also submit an Affidavit of Support.
- Funding must cover at least two semesters and come from liquid assets (no retirement or investment accounts).

Receiving I20
Once you fulfill the necessary requirements to receive your I20 from International Admissions:
- How Do I Apply for a Student Visa? (Online Tutorial)
- International Admissions will email your I20 document and copy of your acceptance letter. This takes between 2-5 days depending upon the region of the world.
- Make an appointment for your visa at your local US Embassy. You can research visa appointment wait times by visiting the site. Please check their website for required documents other than I20 and acceptance letter. The Embassy website will also have details on SEVIS and visa fees.
- Please communicate with International Admissions if you have any concerns or questions on your Embassy visit to ensure you are prepared.
- The U.S. Embassy will notify you regarding visa approval or denial.
- International transfer students transferring to Monroe University from another U.S. based institution need to complete and submit the following form.
- Students requesting an i20 and seeking a change of visa status are required to pay a $500 tuition deposit.
Housing Requirement
If you plan to live on-campus, submit your $150 non-refundable housing fee via Flywire before your I-20 is processed.
If you plan to live off-campus, your housing sponsor must complete a Housing Affidavit of Support.
